Hong Sang-soo, a director in Korea, has been problematized being a professor of Konkuk University. Hong was problematized for his adul- tery with actress Kim Min-hee in 2016. However, the fact that he is currently a professor of KU has aroused concerns about the effects on the image of the school.

According to the Human Resources Team in KU, Hong was recruited as a professor in the College of Film Animation in 2008. The school has not made any official decisions about the situation, and they are continuous- ly considering the problem from all angles. Still, the person in charge acknowledged that they have received an overwhelming number of calls of complaint, agitating for Hong’s expulsion.

There are diverse opinions among the students regarding Hong as a pro- fessor of KU. Some students argue that a professor is an educator and students learn not only from the materials in class, but in more areas as well. However, others say that an individual’s private life should not be consid- ered since university students are adults, and they are able to judge about outside issues, such as morality.
