KU's "RUS" program helps undergraduates explore their career paths

Konkuk University has introduced “Research for Undergraduate Studies” as a program for research and innovation as part of the “university innovation support projects.” The RUS program provides undergraduates with connections to a professor or graduate student mentor which enables undergraduate students to conduct further research and experience laboratory culture in their field of study.

There are two types of tracks students can follow: the four months track and six months track. The six months track started on July 1 and 170 students are participating in the program. The four months program starts on September 2 and plans to recruit an additional 30 to 40 students.

The RUS program is open to students in the third and fourth years who are in the second semester and they can work as a research intern. Undergraduates participating in the program are obliged to transfer mandatory training for their own research and report ongoing research activities in addition to individual training in the laboratory. In the meantime, the RUS program will provide scholarships for participating undergraduate and graduate students.

Lee Choong-hwan, head of the Innovation Project Division said, “The RUS program will provide students with a lot of information to explore areas which they are interested in and find career paths in related fields.”
