Campaigns were held to deliverstudents’ thoughts about tuition

The Tuition Campaign Committee ran a campaign for a decrease in tuition fee on January 15, 2020, at the Student Union Building A. Students participating in the campaign, including the 52nd General Student Association asserted that university policies regarding the management of tuition needs to change for the students to have a better school life.

As the campaign started, the Tuition Campaign Committee declared the “five goals” of the campaign. The five goals were: ① The educational foundation of KU paying its all of its legal contribution1) ② Increase in the expenditures for experimentation practical training ③ University prioritizing students’ demands the most when planning budget allocation ④ Increase in the budget for the education environment enhancement ⑤ Preparing and revealing the calculation basis for the difference in tuition fees between different departments.

Students then marched to the Administration Building repeating the five goals. At the Administration Building, more details about the five goals were explained. After the explanation, students were given post-its to write their thoughts about the current management of tuition fees, and the actions they wanted the school to take. The post-its were attached to the office of the provost and executive vice president for academic affairs.

Although the goals were not fully achieved, the campaign committee and Tuition Review Committee succeeded in adjusting and freezing the tuition and in allocating more budgets for the enhancement of students’ educational environment.
