Operational Testing of autonomous driving robots conducted at KU Campus

Konkuk University and the Woowa Brothers Corp. established an Industry-University Cooperation for the research of commercialization of autonomous driving delivery robots and its interaction with people. As a part of the cooperation, the corporation conducted Korea’s first operational testing of five delivery robots through- out the campus from November 25 to December 20, 2019.

The unmanned delivery service by the robots was available to nine places of the campus and from three restaurants located in the KU dormitory building. The average speed of the robots was about 4km/h, which is similar to the average person’s walking speed. When the orders were taken from one of the nine places through the delivery application, a robot headed to the restaurant. After the food or drink was ready and loaded on to the robot, it then headed to where the order was taken. The robot calculated the optimum path and delivered the foods following this selected path. A total of 2,219 deliveries were made throughout the testing period.

The head of the Woowa Brothers Corp. Robot Delivery Cell said that the corporation will devise a more convenient and efficient robot delivery service using the data accumulated throughout the testing.
