Online art group therapy was held to relieve stress

A mind therapy program for dormitory students was held twice on October 30 and on November 13. The purpose of this program was to relieve the stress students may not have realized they had. Classes were conducted online. There were two hosts who are studying counseling in Konkuk University Graduate School classes.

At the beginning of the first class held on October 30, students started the program with a quick stretching and meditation activity. Following the meditation, students were asked to take out the supplies provided before the class. The materials were colored pencils, drawing paper, and some snacks. Students had time to draw four pictures of themselves enjoying healing time. While students were drawing, the host emphasized the meaning of sharing, saying that it is a starting point for an individual to explore oneself more deeply. Students uploaded their pictures on the chat and shared how they released stress. For one week, they tried to keep what they had drawn to deal with their stress.

In the second class held on November 13, the students had a short chat about whether they kept what they had drawn. They then had some meditation time again and the hosts gave the students a description of flowers. Students picked description and drew them. After the activity, they shared why they had picked those flowers.

When the program was finished, students conducted a satisfaction survey. They said to hosts that by sharing subsequently relieving stress, they could treat their stress better. Moreover, students answered they felt they were not the only ones who suffered from stress, thus could gain courage through the program.
