On November 17, 2023, 'KUmbrella Love Kimchi Service' was held at Konkuk University(KU) Stadium. The Gimjang volunteer activity, operated by KU's Social Service Center, was designed to help low-income and underprivileged people. It was designed to foster consideration and volunteer spirit for students. It allowed students to practice the spirit of cooperation and sharing between universities and local communities. Before starting the service in earnest, the volunteers gathered at the law school building to learn the theory behind kimchi making and listen to the instructions. About 90 people, including KU faculty members, students, and foreign students, made kimchi with 1,200 kilograms of cabbage, radish, green onions, and seasoning. Foreign students participated a lot in that foreign volunteers could also experience Korean food culture firsthand and help the underprivileged in the community. In the process of making kimchi, students have grown further in that they can get an opportunity to have a positive influence in their region or society.

   Until last year, the volunteer activities organized by KU's Social Service Center were focused on briquette sharing volunteer activities. This time, however, foreign students' understanding of Korean food culture has been enhanced through kimchi volunteering activities that can be done directly within KU. Despite the rather complex tasks that require delicacy and accuracy, such as cutting and preparing vegetables, students did their best to volunteer with the expectation that they could help disadvantaged neighbors in the community. 

   After the volunteer work, They tasted the kimchi they made themselves with boiled pork, sharing their pride in the results of the volunteer work. In addition, a student at KU who participated in the volunteer work, said, "I am very proud that this KUmbrella Gimjang volunteer work has greatly contributed to the local community, and I like the opportunity to interact with other students."
