Where and how is the money being used on campus?

On September 19th, 2023, a student union committee in Konkuk University was formed to stand against the tuition raise announced on principle. Voices started to rise when there was an accident inside the Engineering Building on September 12th. Students pointed out that there had been numerous demands from students asking the school to fix the time-worn facilities in the building, yet they were never accepted and put into action. This incident also increased students’ apprehensions and made them call to mind the previous accidents and inconveniences they have experienced on campus, such as the leak in Liberal Arts Building or the crack on the outdoor theater of Student Union Building. Consequently, a committee was formed to demand the school 1) better distribute its tuition to enhance school facilities, 2) open to the public its tuition use, and 3) halt its rise disregarding its students’ financial states.

The committee has conducted a survey on the level of inconvenience students feel in campus and how reasonable they perceive the school’s response to students’ requests are. They also had a petition from October 12th to 14th, demanding that school put a stop to its tuition fee increase. As 1,238 students have signed the petition, the committee is now planning to set a meeting with the school president to deliver their message.
