In this Campus Life, The Konkuk Bulletin would like to recommend a variety of general education courses that are unique and enrich your university life. From 2020, international students entering KU’s degree course must complete at least 12 credits of advanced general education courses by completing two or more subjects in each area of improving thinking skills, academic literacy and personality development, and global talent development. Lecture reviews and recommendations for enrolled students were collected for each field of advanced general education courses.

“Improving Thinking Skills”

1) Horse and Riding (4.8 / 5)

Comment: Whenever I go horseback riding, I feel like I am healing, so It will be a resting place for a difficult university life

     In this lecture, you can learn about horses’ behavior, and the basic principles of horseback riding theory. The goal of this lecture is to create a new leisure culture and expand experiences for students while learning how to communicate with horses and engage in group activities. Until the mid-term exam, students study the basic theory of horse riding, and after the mid-term exam, they will communicate with horses directly at an external horseback riding ground called “Horsemate” located in Hwaseong-si. Students need to spend 240,000 won for practice. How about having a new leisure hobby through this course?

2) The Psychology of Human Behavior and Cognition (4.89 / 5)

Comment: It is a really fun and healing subject because the lecture included various psychological experiments and psychological knowledge.

     This subject introduces various fields and major topics of psychology that scientifically explore the human mind. As this lecture is an introductory lecture on psychology, the professor explains a concept that could be boring with a perfect example. Learning about theories and research results in various psychology fields can increase your understanding of others as well as yourself. It is highly recommended to students who want to gain background knowledge about various psychological studies or psychological experiments and easily befriend with psychology.

 

“Academic Literacy and Personality Development”

1) Modern People Diet (4.57 / 5)

Comment: People who plan to go on a diet can get a lot of help in terms of diet exercise. The professor teaches very kindly about nutrients such as carbohydrates and proteins and exercise.

     It is a lecture that teaches you how to diet healthily and provides a basic knowledge of nutrients. When faceto-face classes were held, the professor brought a simple body composition analysis machine to class and measured body composition twice a semester. In addition, the mid-term exam was replaced by a 10 kilometer run, giving students a different experience. It is a lecture that can help people who value mental and physical health, live an active and healthy life through steady exercise, and diet. Therefore, it is recommended to those who want to be healthy and enjoy a sense of well-being in modern society.

2) A Journey with Classical Music (4.58 / 5)

Comment: It is a lecture that feels like listening to a music show. It is one of the best liberal arts lectures I have ever taken.

     It is a class where students can understand the nature and role of music. In addition, you can learn about various genres of music and the history and characteristics of the East and West. You can deeply understand music by learning classical, baroque, and medieval music along with various video materials. It is said that the assignment of submitting a review after visiting each concert such as vocal music, piano, and orchestral music, as well as classical concerts such as opera, classical ballet, and chorus is given. Also, they sing in choir during class. It is a lecture highly recommended to students who want to cultivate sophistication in music.

 

“Global Talent Development”

1) The Alps-Regional Culture: Legends and Yodel Songs (4.8 / 5)

Yodel-oh-ee-dee-ay-dee Yodel-oh-ee-dee-yodel-oh-dee~ The professor is humorous and I could learn a lot about European culture.

     It is a lecture that identifies the commonality of the Alps’ local culture, also referred to as the “roof of Europe,” and the driving force behind European development, where several countries such as Switzerland, Germany, Austria, France, and Italy are mingled together. It can be seen as a lecture on the overall culture and arts of France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, and Germany in the Alps. It is said that during face-to-face classes, the task of singing a yodel song in front of the classmates was given.

2) The Economy and Stock Investment (4.64 / 5)

Comment: The mock investment was very interesting, and it was good to be able to go through theoretical matters about stock investment.

     In this lecture, students learn the basic concepts of the stock market and how stock prices are formed and determined. In addition, you will learn about a derivate1) that is attracting attention recently. The simulated investment is carried out based on the theory. The professor also provide simulation in class by giving fake 500 million won. Students can buy fake stocks that are listed by the professor. You can do interesting activities to conduct mock investments and write reports.
