Every lecture and event are heading toward phased repairment of normal life

As 2022 freshmen enrolling progress is almost close to an end, many events for freshmen were opened by each college. Freshmen welcoming event is originally one of the traditional schedules in universities. However, due to the spread of COVID-19, most offline events could not be held in 2020 and 2021. Each college and department had to hold all freshmen welcoming events online. Despite the ongoing pandemic situation, some offline meetings were held in some colleges this year under strict regulations of disinfection.

Konkuk Institute of Science and Technology (KIT) was one of the colleges holding Pre-College offline. KIT’s offline meeting was held for two days on February 16 and 17. A student who is in the Department of Smart ICT Convergence, Department of Smart Vehicle Engineering, Department of Integrative Bioscience and Biotechnology, and Department of Biomedical Science and Engineering in 2022 could participate on the first day. The other four departments participated on the second day. They held their Pre-College events in Prime Hall inside Student Union Building and around every place of Konkuk University. They walked around their college and KU.

College of Real Estate Studies also offered offline Pre-College for freshmen in 2 years on February 15, and the College of Veterinary Medicine prepared freshmen orientation and Pre-College offline on February 16. The event was limited to 60 people and private meetings after the offline event was prohibited. In addition, the College of Liberal Arts and College of Business Administration also held an offline Pre-College event. College of Liberal Arts’ offline meeting was from February 23 to 25, and the time was different depending on the departments. They had time to play some mini games for ice breaking. College of Business Administration’s offline meeting was on February 17 and 18, in Business School Room 101. Every other freshman welcoming event held online except the ones explained previously.

There are also changes in the class operation plan for the first semester of 2022. KU announced that every class regardless of its type will be offline in principle, but theoretical classes not requiring experiments or practical work can be operated online. Experiment, practical work class is impossible to operate online, including the ones included in the theoretical class.

B- learning type of classes, which blend offline and online classes, must contain online classes following the guideline. General class must contain 75~100 percent of offline classes and each professor can decide the proportion of offline classes in the range of under 25 percent. Due to the distancing policies, the number of students who can register in class decreases to 80 percent of the classroom occupancy. Sneeze guards are planned to be installed in the classrooms where students from different colleges use in common, and KU is also planning to install additional sneeze guards in the college classroom. K- CUBE and empty classrooms are opened for students who are staying in school under the distancing policy if needed.
