Senior reporters give practical advices based on their experiences

 For three days from September 16 to 18, a specialized program for prospective journalists organized by Konkuk University was held in Law School building. The lecture, which lasted three hours on Friday and six hours on weekend was opened not only for our students but also for students from other universities who dream of becoming journalists.
 In Friday's class, which ran from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Yoon Kyungmin, head of LG Hello Vision's press department, who majored in Japanese education at KU, gave a lecture. The lecture, which was held under the theme of "The Age of Digital Media” started with theoretical contents such as reporting guidelines, basic principles of the media, and dysfunction of the media. After, Reporter Yoon gave practical advices which he has learned at his own work site. As many of the listeners are interested in becoming journalists, the topic of "Tips for passing the press exam" included information that would be very helpful such as "How to write resume and cover letter”.
 On Saturday, the second program was held in the order of the first part from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the second part from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The second day's lecture was divided into two classes, Class A and B. In Class A, Jung Jin-ho, a reporter for the JoongAng Ilbo gave lectures under the theme of “writing press releases." Reporter
Jung introduced the daily work of social department reporters entering the police station and the prosecutors’ office. He also talked about the necessary capabilities of reporters. In particular, he emphasized that a reporter should be a versatile person with great sociability, analysis, and writing skills.
 In the second part, which took place after lunch, News 1 Cho Soyoung, a political reporter, gave a lecture under the theme of "reporting and writing articles." Reporter Cho briefly introduced the daily routine of the news 1 political reporter. After watching the press conference video of Lee Joon-seok, former representative of the People Power Party, students had time for writing their own articles. The students were able to receive direct feedback by writing "Straight” and "Sketch". 
 In Class B, KBS reporter Kim Tae-seok in the first part and KBS reporter Choi Jae-hyuk in the second part gave lectures under the theme of "Basic Editing of Video." The first part of the lecture aimed at ‘understanding broadcast journalism organization and news production system’ and ‘understanding the definition and implementation of
broadcast news journalism’. After the lunch break, Theoretical and practical classes were conducted in the first lecture of second part, 'camera as a means of expression'. Reporter Choi gave a lecture on the types of shots and basic filming laws in the theory class, and later conducted shooting exercises. In the second class of the second part, video editing was mainly dealt with, and theoretical classes on editing
technology and practices on video editing were also followed.
 Day 3 lectures were also held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the same as day 2. For the morning class, KBS Gwangju Broadcasting Station announcer Yoo Do-hee gave a lecture on the theme of "Media Speech." Announcer Yoo mentioned the importance
of speech technology and said that the three essential elements of communication skills are pronunciation, short reading, and emphasis. In the second part of the lecture, which took place after the lunch time, reporter Noh Seon-woong of News 1 and reporter Kim Ga-hyun of Seoul Newspaper gave lectures under the theme of "How to Pass Press Exam." Reporter Noh and Kim introduced about the press exam and shared lessons and tips from their experiences.
 After the lecture, the completion ceremony was proceeded for 30 minutes. As each lecture ends, a lot of questions were asked and the lecturers answered most of the questions and even gave their contacts for more. It was a valuable lecture for prospective journalists as it was given by the senior press.
